Concept of the eXternal vision system (XVS) that will be used in NASA's X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology (QueSST) aircraft. The X-59 is designed with an elongated nose shape, which doesn't leave space for a frontal window. To replace the frontal window, the XVS has a 4K monitor, allowing the pilot to see traffic in their flight path. The X-59 is being designed to produce sonic booms that are so quiet they will only be heard from the ground as sonic thumps or not at all. NASA and Lockheed Martin are conducting this research as part of the Commercial Supersonic Technology project. This project aims to remove the technical barriers for commercial supersonic flight. | |
