Illustration of the Venera 14 probe on the surface of Venus. This probe was launched by the USSR on 4th November 1981 and entered the Venusian atmosphere on 5th March 1982. It survived on the planet, which has the hottest planetary surface in the solar system, with temperatures of nearly 500 degrees Celsius, for 57 minutes. During that time it took photographs and sound recordings and analysed a sample that it drilled from the planet's surface. | |
