Illustration of the Venera 13 probe on the surface of Venus. This probe was launched by the USSR on 30th October 1981 and entered the Venusian atmosphere on 1st March 1982. It survived on the planet, which has the hottest planetary surface in the solar system, with temperatures of nearly 500 degrees Celsius, for 127 minutes. During that time it took photographs and analysed a sample that it drilled from the planet's surface. It was also equipped with microphones and was the first spacecraft to record sounds on another planet. | |
