Light micrograph of a section through human tissue showing evidence of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). This is a relatively rare form of cancer that most commonly develops in the salivary glands or other regions of the head and neck. ACC can occur in other parts of the body such as breast, skin, cervix in females, prostate glands in males and various other areas. Signs and symptom include, a lump in the roof of the mouth, numbness in upper jaw, face and tongue, and difficulty in swallowing. Standard treatment involves surgical removal of the tumour and the surrounding tissue. | |
