Light micrograph through tissue of the human uterus showing a hydatidiform mole, also known as a molar pregnancy. This is a rare complication of pregnancy characterised by the abnormal growth of trophoblasts, the cells that normally develop into the placenta, the problem being when the egg and the sperm join together at the fertilisation stage. There are two types of molar pregnancy, complete and partial.
