Vostok payload on its R-7 rocket. Vostok was a family of rockets designed for the Soviet Union's human spaceflight programme. Vostok 1 carried Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968) on the first manned flight into space from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, on 12 April 1961.
