NASA's Parker Solar Probe image of Venus's nightside taken from a distance of 12, 380 kilometres. A bright rim is seen around the planet's edge. Scientist believe this could be nightglow, light emitted when oxygen atoms recombine into molecules on the darkside of the planet. The largest highland region on Venus, Aphrodite terra (dark grey region, left) is also seen. Image obtained by the probe's Wide-field Imager for Solar Probe (WISPR) instrument on 11 July 2020. | |
