A copy of the Air Ministry pamphlet â??The Battle of Britain, August-October 1940â? together with The London Gazette, 18 April, 1941. The pamphlet is an account of the period between 8th August-31st October 1940 when RAF pilots successfully defended the British Isles against German Luftwaffe attacks. It was published by the Ministry of Information to inform the British public about the event, boost feelings of patriotism and raise morale. The London Gazette (now The Gazette) is the Official Public Record and the oldest continuously published newspaper in the UK, dating from 1665 and is an important official journal of the UK government. During World War 2, Âmilitary despatches submitted by commanders-in-chief were published in The Gazette from 1941 until 1951. | |
