The Black-skinned Parrot Snake (Leptophis ahaetulla nigromarginata) is an alert, visually oriented diurnal snake that engages in vigorous defensive displays. Chief among them is gaping. This species can be regionally abundant in shrubbery and understory in the upper Amazon Basin. It hunts for sleeping frogs by day.
