A species of Snaketooth (Pseudoscopelus sp.) trawled from between 1, 500m depth and the surface, Gulf of Mexico, 2018. These fish use their considerable teeth to snag prey items sometimes up to twice their own size. They can eat animals larger than themselves and have a stomach that is expandable. This fish was collected as part of the DEEPEND project. Image courtesy of the DEEPEND project. | |
