Lungs with vaping damage. Computed tomography (CT) scan of the lungs of a 19 year old female that presented with worsening fever, cough and congestion after vaping. The front of the body is at top. This scan was taken two days after admission and shows extensive consolidation in both lower lung lobes (left greater than right), which is a marked progression from when admitted. There is also significantly increased groundglass opacity within much of the inferior left upper lobe. Groundglass opacities have spread into the lateral portions of the right middle lobe and consolidation in the superior segments of both lower lobes has increased. Such progression is consistent with a vaping induced autoimmune lipoid pneumonia. For a scan of the lungs when the patient was first admitted see C047/4280. | |
