Future recovery of the wreck of RMS Titanic, illustration. The Titanic, the largest ocean liner ever built at the time and reputed to be unsinkable, sank with the loss of 1517 lives. It was on its maiden voyage across the North Atlantic between the ports of Southampton, UK, and New York, USA. The wreck was discovered in 1985 and several salvage operations have recovered items from the ship. It is currently deteriorating. This illustration shows a recovery operation taking place in several stages. | |
