Asteroid impact on snowball Earth, illustration. Two and a half billion years ago an asteroid impacted Earth. At that time Earth was in the throes of snowball Earth, or the Huronian glaciation. It is speculated that the result of the impact ended the worldwide glaciation. The remains of this asteroidal impact are found in Mid Western Australia, and are the oldest impact structure on Earth. | |
