Restoration and investigation work being carried out on deteriorated parts of the controversial Artemidorus papyrus. This papyrus, dated first century BC by some authorities, was initially attributed to Artemidorus of Ephesus, a Greek geographer. The document consists of a 3 metre-long piece of papyrus with text, a map (the only Greek map preserved on papyrus), and a series of anatomical and animal sketches. Recent research has indicated the papyrus may be a 19th century forgery by the Greek Constantine Simonidis. Photographed at the University of Milan. | |
