Billingham manufacturing plant in Teesside, UK, a large chemical works, and brownfield land - site of former ICI chemical works - in the near distance. The Billingham plant started life at the beginning of the 1920s to produce ammonium nitrate for use in explosives, and later for agricultural chemicals. During WWII Billingham was one of the sites involved in the world’s first atomic weapons project codenamed Tube Alloys. A new chemical plant has now been developed on the vacant land.
