Mobile radio station used by Marconi, 1900. Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937), an Italian physicist and inventor, was the first to send radio signals across the Atlantic. He later developed short-wave radio equipment, and established a worldwide radio telegraph network for the British government. In 1909 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics.
