Frickley Colliery, South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, 1965. With its shaft sunk in 1905, Frickley Colliery in the village of South Elmsall, West Yorkshire, was worked until November of 1993 when it was closed. It was the scene of civil unrest during the Miners Strike (1984-1985) and was one of the last pits to resume work due to a group of hardline union members from Kent picketing the pit gates after the NUM had called off the strike and the Frickley miners refusing to cross the picket line. | |
