This depiction of the cycle of the waxing phase of the Moon is found on the astronomical ceiling of the outer hypostyle hall in the Temple of Hathor in the Dendera Temple complex, near Dendera, Egypt. It shows the Moon waxing over 14 days, with 14 stairs and deities (from left) ending with the fully 'healed' Moon and the Eye of Horus at right. At far right is the god Thoth, who has healed Horus. From left, the deities are Iunit, Tenenet, Horus, Hathor, Nephthys, Horus, Isis, Osiris, Nut, Geb, Tefnut, Shu, Atum, and Min. This ceiling frieze dates from the 1st century AD during the Roman period. |
