Deir el-Medina, ancient Egyptian village. Excavated ruins of buildings in the village of Deir el-Medina, dating from the 2nd millennium BC in Ancient Egypt. This village housed the artisans and craftsmen who worked on the tombs in the Valley of Kings during the 18th to 20th dynasties of the New Kingdom period. The village is located on the West Bank of the River Nile, near Luxor, Egypt. Archaeologists have been excavating at this site since the 1920s. | |
