Supermoon over Portuguese village. A supermoon is a Full Moon that occurs when the Moon is at its perigee, its closest approach to the Earth. In addition to this, the Full Moon rising near the horizon results in an optical illusion that makes the Moon appear larger than it is compared to objects in the foreground. Photographed on 29 August 2015, over the medieval village and castle of Monsaraz, part of the Alqueva Dark Sky Reserve, Portugal. | |
