Paraceratherium prehistoric mammal. Illustration of two prehistoric extinct mammals found in Asia during the Oligocene (33 to 23 million years ago). They are Paraceratherium (related to the giant rhinoceros) and the wolf-sized creodont Hyaenodon. Paraceratherium was one of the largest terrestrial mammals ever to live, with a shoulder height of nearly 5 metres. It was a herbivorous browser. Hyaenodon was a carnivorous predator. | |
