Cataract in the right eye of an 80-year-old woman. A cataract is a progressive opacity of the eye's lens, due to changes in the structure of the lens. It causes blurred vision that can lead to blindness if it is untreated. When required, surgical treatment can restore vision. The lens is removed and a plastic replacement inserted. The cataract forms an area of opacity where the pupil would normally be seen. | |
