Paper chromatography is a physical method for separating mixtures. In this sequence a piece of filter paper is folded in a cone and placed over a glass of vinegar, such that the top of the cone is slightly above the rim. A coloured washable marker is used to draw a circle around the centre of the paper. When the vinegar reaches the paper, the ink dissolves and travels outward with the vinegar, in the process separating into constituent pigments. | |
