Paper chromatography is a physical method for separating mixtures. In this sequence pieces of filter paper are folded into cones and placed over a glass of vinegar, such that the top of the cone is slightly above the rim. Coloured washable markers are used to draw circles around the cones. When the vinegar reaches the paper, the ink dissolves and travels outward with the vinegar, in the process separating into constituent pigments. | |
