Diffraction on circular aperture. A setup demonstrating a classic case of Frounhofer diffraction on a circular aperture. Here of a diode laser beam (635 nm) is incident on a small aperture (diaphragm, pinhole) of 35 micron diameter. The resulting diffraction pattern (called Airy disk) is observed on a screen about 15 cm away. Insert shows a close-up of the diffraction pattern, taken in a separate shot. This is a classic demonstration of the wave nature of the light. | |
