The Nauta Palm Foot Salamander, Bolitoglossa altamazonica, inhabits wet lowland forests in The upper Amazon Basin, east of the Andes. This group of salamanders has a ballistic tongue in that they can shoot their tongues out of their mouths (sometimes to a distance longer than their bodies) to snatch an unsuspecting prey item. This individual was photographed on the Rio Samiria, Loreto, Peru, November 2013. | |
