A close-up view of one of the smallest species of dragonfly, the black darter (Sympetrum danae) resting on a sedge. The male black darter body markings steadily gets darker as the dragonfly matures. Females have much more yellow on the thorax. This species is found in northern Europe, America and Asia. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in July. | |
