Apollo 11 crew in the Mobile Quarantine Facility. US astronauts Neil Armstrong (right, 1930-2012), Buzz Aldrin (right background, born 1930) and Michael Collins (left background, born 1930) returned to Earth on 24 July 1969, at the end of their historic mission, which was the first to land astronauts on the Moon. They were recovered by US Navy divers from the Command Module 'Columbia' as it floated in the Pacific Ocean after splashdown. The astronauts were then placed in a Mobile Quarantine Facility (MQF), flown to Houston, Texas, and kept in quarantine for 18 days until 10 August 1969. Photographed on 24 July 1969. |
