Rope tornado at night. Rope out of a strong tornado in western South Dakota, USA, at night. Tornadoes in the dissipating stage can resemble narrow tubes or ropes. At this point, they are said to be 'roping out' and the length of their funnel increases, forcing the winds within the funnel to weaken. Multiple-vortex tornadoes can appear as a family of swirls circling a common centre. Photographed in June 2018. | |
