CTB-1 is a large supernova remnant located in Cassiopeia constellation. It is also catalogued as Abell 85 and LBN576. It was originally believed by George Abell a planetary nebula, it soon became evident that it was actually a supernova remnant. It was also recognized as a radio source and acquired the alternative designation CTB 1. This object is most challenging for astrophotographers. This image was created from photographic material taken with the 1.22-metre Oschin Telescope at Mount Palomar Observatory, forming part of the Digitized Sky Survey 2. | |
