Septimius Severus (145-211), Roman emperor. Septimius Severus reigned from 193 to 211. He was the final emperor in the Year of the Five Emperors, the disputed successions that occurred following the assassination of Commodus in 192. Severus consolidated his power and reigned for nearly 18 years. He established his sons Caracalla and Geta as co-emperors from 198 and 209, though they failed to rule together after his death with Caracalla having his brother murdered after the death of their father.
