Doppler weather radar for the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. This weather radar has been installed on top of this tower in a remote field in Cape Canaveral, to the west of NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The radome houses the rotating antenna and pedestal and protects them from the elements. The tower is 30 metres tall. The antenna rotates six times per minute. Weather radar is essential for monitoring lightning and other severe weather to help decide whether it is safe to launch rockets and other spacecraft. Photographed in January 2009. | |
