Storm clouds and mammatus clouds in the evening in spring. Mammatus clouds have a pouch-like appearance and form in the presence of sinking air. These clouds are associated with turbulent and stormy weather. Here, they are seen underneath towering cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds. This view looks south-south-east towards north Somerset from Penarth in south Wales on an April evening. This storm was producing frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. | |
