Sentinel-5P satellite (centre) released into orbit, artwork. Sentinel-5P (Sentinel-5 Precursor) was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Russia on 13 October 2017. It is the first mission of the European Space Agency's Copernicus Programme dedicated to monitoring air pollution. The satellite carries the Tropomi instrument (TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument), a spectrometer sensing ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS), near (NIR) and short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) to monitor ozone, methane, formaldehyde, aerosol, carbon monoxide, NO2 and SO2 in the atmosphere. |
