Saturn and its rings, final Cassini image. This view, which includes six of Saturn's moons, was taken from a distance of around 1.1 million kilometres, with the wide-angle camera of Cassini's Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS). It was obtained on 13 September 2017, two days before the mission ended. Saturn is a gas giant planet with an average radius about nine times that of Earth and a volume of over 800 Earths. Its large ring system consists of thousands of chunks of rock and ice. The Cassini spacecraft surveyed the Saturnian system from 2004 to 2017. | |
