Milky Way and moonset over Lake Manasarovar at night. The Milky Way (upper left) is our galaxy seen from the inside, forming a band of stars and nebulae stretching across the sky. The Moon (centre right) is setting in the west over Lake Manasarovar, with snow-capped mountains at left. Lake Manasarovar is a high-altitude (4590 metres) freshwater lake, formed from meltwater from the Kailash glaciers on nearby Mount Kailash. The lake and mountains are in Tibet in western China. This scene was inspired by one of the most famous poems in China, 'Thoughts while traveling at night', written by Chinese poet Dufu during the Tang dynasty (Year 712-770).
