Immunofluorescence light micrograph of a mouse embryo at the implantation stage, the stage where it implants into the uterine wall. The embryonic cells have begun to differentiate and self-organise. The epiblast, which will develop into the foetus, creates a 'rosette' formation around a central cavity (the pro-amniotic cavity) in which the foetus will develop. This embryo has been grown in vitro, allowing this developmental stage to be studied for the first time. | |
