Caricature of the Swiss psychologist and philosopher Jean Piaget (1896-1980), smoking a pipe. Piaget is best known for his pioneering work in child development. Much of his study of theories of human knowledge (epistemology) was based on how children's minds develop and his theory of cognitive development and epistemological view are together called 'genetic epistemology'. Piaget showed that children think in different ways to adults and demonstrated that children's misconceptions are often entirely logical if their limited knowledge is taken into account. His work led to the creation of scientific fields such as developmental psychology and cognitive theory. | |
