Naevus in the iris of the eye
Naevus in the iris of the eye of a 23-year-old man. The iris is a coloured muscular diaphragm that controls how much light enters the eye through its central aperture, the pupil. This patient has a naevus, a type of mole, in the iris of his left eye (shown here). It forms a brown patch contrasting with the blue colour of the iris. Present since birth, this harmless condition is also known as piebald iris. For both eyes, see image C038/9465. For the other eye, see image C038/9467.
