Naevi in the irises of the eye of a 23-year-old man. The iris is a coloured muscular diaphragm that controls how much light enters the eye through its central aperture, the pupil. This patient has a extensive naevus, a type of mole, in the iris of his left eye (centre right). It forms a brown patch contrasting with the blue colour of the iris. Present since birth, this harmless condition is also known as piebald iris. For close-ups of each eye, see images C038/9466 and C038/9467. | |
