Snakelocks anemone (Anemonia viridis) fluorescing. It has been illuminated by blue light to excite the green fluorescent protein (GFP) contained in the chlorophyll of zooxanthellae symbiotic algae found in the anemone's tissues. GFP absorbs the blue light and re-emits it as lower-energy green light. Specimen collected from a rockpool on the Pembrokeshire coast, Wales, UK. | |
