Gabar goshawk (Micronisus gabar) bathing in a puddle on a gravel road after the summer rains have fallen. This carnivorous bird of prey inhabits the savannah and bushlands of southern Africa. It is a solitary diurnal hunter, flying low over the ground or watching from a tree for its prey of rodents, insects, lizards, small birds and nestlings. Adult females are significantly larger than adult males, and weigh around 90 percent more. Photographed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park of Botswana and South Africa. | |
