Bell commenting on his theorem at CERN, 1982. British physicist John Stewart Bell (1928-1990) is most famous for originating Bell's theorem in the mid-1960s. The diagrams on the blackboard illustrate what is known as Bell's inequality. Bell's work extended the EPR paradox to derive this inequality. The inequality implies that certain types of physical theories are unable to account for all the predictions of quantum mechanics, raising philosophical questions about the limits of what is possible with such theories.
