Charles Edward Munroe (1849-1938), US chemist. Munroe graduated from Harvard in 1871, lecturing there until 1874. He then took a position as professor of chemistry at the United States Naval Academy. From 1886 he worked on explosives at the Naval Torpedo Station and War College at Newport, Rhode Island, discovering the Munroe effect relating to shaped explosive charges. He then spent 25 years at the Columbian University (1892 to 1917) in Washington DC, USA. Photographed in around 1905 or 1906 by the C. M. Bell photographic studio in Washington DC, USA. | |
