A captive pygmy slow loris (nycticebus pygmaeus) being used by a tout to solicit money from tourists at the Damnoen Saduak floating market in Thailand. This endangered species, classified as Vulnerable"" by IUCN, is not native to Thailand. The owners often subject these animals to cruel practices, like extracting their teeth and sedating the animal, in order to make it easier for tourists to handle them. Although it is illegal to trade these species, the local police authorities who patrol the market area do not confiscate the animals from the handlers." | |
