Black-crested coquette hummingbird (Lophornis helenaes) feeding from a flower. This is a juvenile. Hummingbirds feed on nectar and insects. They hover near flowers by flapping their wings many times per second, using a long curved bill to reach the nectar in a flower. This hummingbird is found in moist lowland and mountain forests in Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Photographed in Costa Rica. | |
