Johann Kunckel (1630-1702). 1880 illustration of the German chemist Johann von Lowenstern-Kunckel. Kunkel is best known for having discovered (with Robert Boyle) the secret of the process by which Hennig Brand of Hamburg had prepared phosphorus in 1669.
