Fluorescent light micrograph of a Zooglea ramigera bacteria colony from a shower drain. The bacteria are arranged in sharply demarcated columns or finger-like structures. Zooglea plays an important part in wastewater treatment with its ability to lower biological oxygen demand. The sample was stained with acridine orange to show green fluorescence with blue excitation. Microscopic contrast technique: Incident fluorescence, blue excitation. Magnification 900x when printed 10 centimetres wide. | |
