Light micrograph of a section through a computer multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) with a via filled with solder. A via is an electrical connection between layers in a physical electronic circuit that goes through the plane of one or more layers. A small part of a PCB was embedded in light curing resin and then ground and diamond polished. The image shows the basic epoxy material of the PCB with glass reinforcement filaments in linen weave in blue. Microscopic contrast technique: Incident brightfield combined with UV excitation fluorescence. Magnification 40x when printed 10 centimetres wide.
