Circe. 1886 engraving of a painting by French artist Louis Chalon (1866-1940) depicting Circe the Ancient Greek goddess of magic with enemies she has turned into pigs. Circe was the daughter of the sun god Helios, and Perse, an Oceanid nymph. She was renowned for her vast knowledge of potions and herbs, which she used to transform her enemies into wild beasts. | |
